Woman sentenced to life imprisonment for killing university student
Cecilia Waruguru Muriithi, 36 years old has been sentenced to life imprisonment for killing a student of the University of Nairobi.
Ms. Waruguru was accused of killing Susan Wanjiku Kihiu a law student at UON Parklands campus, in 2013.
In a ruling Justice Richard Mwongo of Naivasha Court found Waruguru guilty sentencing her to life sentence.
Judge Mwongo said the sentence will be reviewed 20 years later , only if the accused demonstrates good conduct.
“In my view, a non-custodial sentence will pass the wrong message to many women and men stuck in situations where their spouses are in romantic affairs with girlfriends and boyfriends, commonly known as “mpango wa kando”.
“For these reasons, and having considered all the factors, I sentence the accused to life imprisonment with effect from April 1, 2019. The sentence shall be subjected to review after 20 years upon the accused’s demonstration of good conduct,” the judge ruled.
It is said Waruguru suspected Susan was having a sexual relationship with her husband after seeing them together on several occasions.
