Why Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko will not name his deputy soon
Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Friday postponed naming his deputy in order to consider a nominee from Nasa.
Sonko fell out with his deputy Polycarp Igathe over trust issues in January 2018 four months after theey were sworn into office.
May 2018 Sonko nominated controversial lawyer and self declared NRM general Miguna Miguna for the Nairobi Deputy Governor position. The appointment of Miguna was seen as a tactic by the governor to cool the political temperature in the city from those who were pushing him to name his deputy.
Analysts have an opinion that the Nairobians will have to wait longer for them to have a deputy governor.
The constitution of Kenya does not state clearly the process of replacing a DG who have either died or resigned. The constitution vacuum will continue to keep Nairobians waiting.
The second reason as to why Sonko is not in a hurry to name his DG is the trust issue. The flamboyant governor understand well in case he is impeached the DG will take over power so he has to appoint a faithful person who will not backbite him to rise to the top job.
