What you need to know about Kipchoge’s INEOS 1:59 challenge

Kenyan world marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge, left for Vienna, Austria on Monday night to participate in INEOS 1:59 challenge.

There are many unanswered questions from most Kenyans about what the race entails.

The race is sponsored by British billionaire Sir Tom Ratcliffe, and it will take place in Vienna Austria. Sir Tom is the owner of a chemical firm INEOS.

Kipchoges new history

Kipchoge will be seeking to make history as being the first man in the world to run the inaugural sub-two-hour marathon.

The exact date of the event is yet to be announced but the organizers of the event will confirm the date three days to the event.

“The unique nature of this extraordinary event means we are not in a position where we can confirm the date or the start time of the Challenge until we can be absolutely certain the weather conditions are suitable” the organisers said.

It has also been reported that INEOS 1:59 meteorology and performance experts will provide weather data to Kipchoge’s coaching team and use this to collectively make the decision as to what date and time the INEOS 1:59 challenge will take place, to give Kipchoge the best possible chance of success.

The event will be aired on local TV channels as Kipchoge try to make a new history.
