The Government will keep importing fish from China
The National Treasury has slapped the face of Kenyans by affirming that they will keep importing fish from China. The reason given by National Treasury is that the fish produced in Kenya is not sufficient to meet market’s demand.
The importation of fish has been argued to drive the local fish sale downwards as the imported fish is sold at very low prices. However, the irony is that Kenya exports its quality fish to European market while importing cheap fish from China to bridge the gap between production and demand.
This stand seems to contradict what the President stated in October 2018 by banning importation of fish from China. Most Kenyans believe that the importation of these fish from China is due to the heavy debt the country has from China.
