Tanzanian court jails Chinese woman for 15 years
A Chinese woman dubbed ‘Ivory Queen’ was on Tuesday sentenced to 15 year jail term by a Tanzanian court after being found guilty of smuggling elephant task to Asia.
She was accused of having smuggled 860 pieces of ivory tusks between 2000 and 2004 worth 13 billion. She had been charged along two Tanzanians.
The woman, who is 67 years old, has been living in Tanzania since 1970 and has a restaurant in the capital, Dar es Salaam.
All the three who were accused in this case were sentenced to 15 years behind bars.
It should be remember that in 2016, Tanzania two Chinese to 35 years in prison for ivory smuggling and in December 2015 four Chinese were sentenced to 20 years for smuggling rhino horns.
