Tanga Tanga MPS wants CBK to shorten the period of phasing out old Ksh 1000
Members of Parliament associated to Deputy President William Ruto , now wants Central Bank to reduce the deadline of phasing out Ksh 1000 note.
Speaking on Sunday during a fundraiser in Kahawa Wendani, Kiambu County the legislators urged CBK to bring closer the deadline of October 1 of phasing out the notes.
Led by Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichungwa, the MP said that the deadline should be 31st July to match country’s financial year.
“The Central Bank Governor said we have four months up to October. In my opinion that it to far away. Kenya’s financial year starts in July so if it is possible, the president should make that the deadline for the validity of the Ksh 1000 notes,” Ichungwa said.
South Mugirango MP Silivanus Osoro on his side, said the old currency was to big to fit in wallet. He said CBK should move in speed to have the new notes to allow them issue more money for developments.
The CBK had issued a four month ultimatum to Kenyans to return Ksh 1000 notes in exchange with the new ones.
