Senator asks his constituents not to pay tax
Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala has asked traders in Matungu Constituency to stop paying tax until the by-election is over.
The Senate Deputy Minority Leader accused Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya of using County resources to campaign for ODM candidate David Were for the March slated by Election.
The first time Senator singled out the use of ward administrators, government vehicles, and County Askaris in the campaign.
“We are concerned about the wastage of government resources in Kakamega, and we will not allow county employees including sub-county and ward administrators, government vehicles, and county askaris to be used in campaigns for ODM candidate,” said Mr. Malala.
Senator Speaks out
The agitated Malala said that it’s unfortunate for poor traders to pay tax for the money to be diverted into political campaigns. He urged local residents to boycott paying tax until the anticipated election is over.
“I am calling on traders to stop paying taxes until the Matungu by-election is over. We cannot subject our poor people to straining while paying taxes that end up in campaigns for a particular candidate,” he added.
The by-election has attracted a number of candidates including Alex Lanya of UDA, Peter Nabulindo of ANC, and David Were of ODM.
