Safaricom shops to stop taking old currency from next week

Safaricom shops will not accept old accept the old Ksh 1000 note from Thursday September 2019.

In an official communication to all their outlets, the communication giant directed their agents not to accept the old currency.

According to Safaricom the move is to allow smooth transition as the use of old currency comes to an end on September 30.

“We will no longer accept the old generation notes effective Saturday, September 25. This is to allow us to have a seamless transition to the new currency before the deadline of Monday, September 30,” the statement read.

Central Bank of Kenya had advised Kenyans to exchange the notes to the nearest bank before the deadline.

One doesn’t need a bank account to change the notes.
