Prof Laban Ayiro appointed as Daystar University Vice Chancellor after rejection from Moi University

Daystar University has appointed Prof. Laban Ayiro as their Vice Chancellor. This comes after his rejection from Moi University where he had been serving in an acting position for one and a half year.

An internal memo by Prof. Henry Thairu, University’s Council Chair, stated that Prof. Ayiro had been selected from a list of 30 candidates who had applied.

“The appointment of Prof Ayiro follows a rigorous process which started on December 5, 2018. In January 2019, the council received six potential candidates from a total of 30 applicants interviewed by the human resource consultant, Manpower Limited,” part of the memo stated.

He will take up the position from Prof. James Kombo who has been holding it in an acting position since June 2018. Prof. Kombo assumed the position when Prof. Timoth Wachira was ousted following chaos by students.

Prof. Ayiro was in the same position at Moi University and was a front runner to be selected on a permanent basis but it is argued that in what appeared to have been a political appointment, he was ‘rigged out.’
