Pressure mounts on Governor Mike Sonko to name his Deputy
Senators are tired of seeing a ‘one man show’ in Nairobi County and have urged Governor Mike Sonko to immediately name his deputy and stop defying the rule of law.
”The actions of Sonko are disturbing and I beseech the MCAs to invoke their legislative authorities and oversight mandate to pile pressure on Sonko to pick a deputy,” said Senator Beatrice Kwamboka.
Former Deputy Governor Polycarp Igathe resigned on 12th Janaury 2018 and since then Governor Mike Sonko has been running the show alone.
Senator Kwamboka urged Senators and MCAs to look for options to impeach the governor in the event that he doesn’t name a deputy.
The senator was not alone in this view as she was backed-up by Senators Jonstone Sakaja (Nairobi) Fred Outa (Kisumu), Agnes Zani (Nominated), Stewart Madzayo (Kilifi), Ochillo Ayacko (Migori) among others.
Nairobi County Senator, Sakaja, stated that having a deputy is not a matter of if Mike Sonko wants or not, but a matter of what the Constitution dictates.
