President Kenyatta promises to sponsor all national teams
President Uhuru Kenyatta has promised government sponsorship to all the national teams.
Speaking during the Beyond Zero Marathon, President Kenyatta pledged government support to all national teams that will be taking up international duties.
The President noted that all teams will receive full government sponsorship as they prepare to fly higher country’s flag.
“This year I can proudly say that Sports, Culture and the Arts will take centre stage in our Republic. My Administration will fully fund our national sports teams to facilitate their activities, and will support them to succeed. ” He added.

Kenya Sevens which was once the pride of Africa in rugby has been struggling financially after their main sponsor Kenya Airways pulled out. The rugby giants are now performing dismally due to financial woes.
Harambee Stars who qualified for Africa Cup of Nations may be the big beneficiary of the program. Stars head coach Sebastian Migne has threaten severally to resign over unpaid salary.
The government had earlier on promised to support national teams and local clubs after raising taxes on gambling firms that mainly sponsor sports teams.
Betting firms threaten to withdraw their sponsorship due to heavy taxation a move that forced government to say it will sponsor the team. Though they did not honor their pledge.
