President Kenyatta cuts DP Ruto’s powers by empowering CS Matiang’i
President Uhuru Kenyatta has taken a move that others have deemed to be a slap on his Deputy’s face, William Ruto. The President has moved to empower CS of Interior , Fred Matiang’i. Matiang’i has been given a new position as the chair of National Development Implementation Technical Committee.
This committee is made up of all Cabinet Secretaries, Head of Public Service secretariat and Attorney General.
Dr. Matiang’i will now supervise all government projects which include the Big Four Agenda that President Kenyatta is fully relying on for the sake of his legacy. Dr. Matiang’i will be deputized by CS Henry Rotich.
This position seems like a de facto Prime Minister. He will coordinate all government ministries. The CS will be directing directly to the President.
The National Transport and Safety Authority, that was previously under Transport Ministry, has also been put under CS Matiang’i.
Matiang’i has been receiving praises from various corners of the republic on the way he makes bold decisions and stands by them.
“Transport CS is a wage bill. The president should consider Matiang’i as their supervisor and coordinator of government ministries. He is doing his job well.” a resident of Borabu commented.
“This is one minister who knows his job. Whether you like him or not, he does what’s right, no matter the resistance. He deserves to coordinate all ministries.” another resident added.
The interior ministry, in the changes, will also be in charge of motor vehicles inspection and certification, regulation of public service vehicles, development and implementation of road safety strategies, enforcement of the axle road control through weighbridges, as well as regulation and licensing of motor vehicles.
