Police goes after three teachers in Kakamega Primary stampede

Police are investigating three teachers of Kakamega Primary who were on duty on Monday when the stampede that Killed 14 pupils happened.

Western region Police Commander Peris Kimani said that the three teachers might have vital information that will help in the investigations.

Ms Kimani also noted that the school headteacher had already recorded a statement and they were waiting for the three teachers to record the statement so as to speed up the investigations.

“We have already recorded a statement from the head teacher and we moving with speed to ensure other teachers record statements so that we can conclude the investigation fast,” the police boss stated.

Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha speaking at the school on Tuesday morning ruled out that congestion was cause of the death.

“It is not about numbers, the headteacher was so much in control of the numbers when I was here so nobody can tell me it’s about the numbers,”

“I am familiar with this school. I was here two months ago and I inspected it. It is one of the finest schools and has some of the finest teachers. I went to four classrooms and I was thoroughly impressed. They are excellent teachers,” he said.

The institution will remain closed until Monday next week.
