NYS scandal version 1 – Selesio Karanja sentenced
Finally we get to see the first conviction in the NYS case. Selesio Karanja, a church elder, and the then supply chain assistant has been fined Kes 4 million or serve a sentence of 4 years in jail.
At the Milimani Law Courts, chief magistrate Lawrence Mugambi found Karanja guilty of fraudulent procurement practice involving a Kes 47.6 million tender.
Karanja is said to have inserted the company Dama Services Ltd for the tender procurement of training materials in the Automotive Engineering faculty without approval.
Mr. Karanja, along side former Devolution PS Peter Mangiti and 23 others were facing the same charges. However, all the other accused people were acquitted in March 2018 for lack of sufficient evidence.
Further to the fine or jail sentence, he has been barred from holding any public office in future.
