Nyeri Magistrate Pauline Maisy Chesang’ remanded together with inmates she had sentenced

Nyeri Magistrate Pauline Maisy Chesang’ has pleaded with the court not to sentence her together with inmates she had sentenced before.

Chesang’ was arrested in connection with the murder of her husband, High Court’s advocate Robert Chesang. Appearing before a Machakos Court, Magistrate Pauline Maisy Chesang requested to be detained at Athi River police station.

She told the court not to remand her at Machakos G.K Prison as she could be tortured by the inmates she had sentenced them before.

Issa Nyakundi a lawyer representing Chesang’ insisted that her client might get attacked if she was to be detained at the Machakos prison.

“If she must be remanded, I pray that she be held at Athi River Police Station and not Machakos where she is likely to encounter inmates whom she might have sentenced while serving in some stations,” said Nyakundi.

However the court denied Chesang’ request in the ground that Chesang was in court as an ordinary citizen and not a judge.
