Mkomani Ward MCA found guilty of aiding drug trafficking
Mkomani Ward MCA Yahya Ahmed Shee alias Basode has been found guilty by a Lamu court for aiding drug trafficking in the area.
Lamu Principal Magistrate Allan Temba ruled that the MCA is guilty of six counts of drug trafficking-related charges and violence. Mr. Temba in his ruling said that the MCA committed the offense leveled against him based on the evidence presented in court.
“The court found that the prosecution had adduced evidence beyond reasonable doubt that the accused committed the offenses,” said the Magistrate.
Mkomani Ward MCA Charges
Ahmed was charged that on June 2, 2017, forcefully attempted to rescue Zamzam Mohamed Salim who had been convicted and sentenced to 20 years imprisonment for drug trafficking. The MCA was also charged of trying to rescue Ali Mzee on June 2, 2017, who had also been convicted and sentenced to 10 years for drug trafficking.
The MCA was further charged with an attempt to rescue a prisoner, Nyathumani Yusuf, who had been convicted and sentenced to 5 years imprisonment. He was also charged with unlawfully resisting the police in the due execution of their duties.
The MCA political career is in limbo as he has been remanded at Hindi GK Prison in Lamu West, awaiting his sentencing slated for April 6, 2020.
The Coast region has been the hub of drug trafficking with drug barons believed to be influential people in the society. This has hindered the fight against drug abuse as the drug lords are untouchable.
