List of Matatu Sacco suspended by NTSA

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), on Monday suspended nine Matatu Sacco from operating.

NTSA through a statement accused the nine Saccos for failing to comply with the law governing operations of PSV’s in the country.

Law requires a Sacco to operate a minimum of 30 vehicles in order to operate a requirement that they had failed.

NTSA takes action

“NTSA notifies the Public that it has suspended Nine Saccos/Companies for failing to comply with the provisions of Section 5(1) of the National Transport and Safety Authority (Operation of PSV)Regulations, 2014, which require a PSV Sacco/Company to operate a minimum of Thirty (30) serviceable motor vehicles,” said NTSA in a statement.

The nine saccos suspended include City Tram, Mwamba Sacco, Marvellous Travellers,MNGN Sacco (MathareNorth-Ngara-Gikomba), Fig Komba Sacco, Moonlight Coach company, Mwirona Sacco, Huruma Mini Bus and Transafaris.

On Monday the authority suspended Little Shuttle for failing to comply with the safety rules.

Francis Meja

NTSA director general Francis Meja, through a statement accused the Little Shuttle and SWVL for illegally operating shuttle services without the required PSV licenses.

“The vehicles under these hailing app companies have acquired Tours Service License (TSL) but are engaging in commuter service within Nairobi therefore contravening the terms of the Tour Service License (TSL),”said Meja.
