Lancet Laboratories Coronavirus results raise eyebrows
Lancet laboratories have been put on the spot over contradicting covid-19 results that don’t match with tests don in government labs.
Pathologists Lancet Kenya is one of the private entities entitled to test covid19 samples. However, in more than two incidences Lancet has issued contradicting Covid-19 results with Kenya Medical Research Institute (Kemri), for the same samples.

The shocking part is that samples from Lancet are said to have tested positive but when subjected to other institutions the samples test positive. This has raised concerns from members of the public over the credibility of samples tested at the lab.
There is a case reported in Mombasa where Lancet reported the woman is COVID positive but when the same sample was tested in Nairobi Hospital indicated it turned out to be negative.
The recent case is of the prestigious St Andrew’s School Turi. Five days ago 17 teaching staffs of the Nakuru based international school tested positive of the virus. The tests are said to have been done at the Lancet laboratories.
However, when the samples were taken to Kemri for testing the 17 turned negative. An email by the school management to the staff seen by Daily Nation confirmed that the results of the 17 received from Kemri labs were negative.
“Dear team, further to the tests by the Public health team, results have come back…negative. The school will run as normal. The common areas that were closed are now open,” read the letter in part.
This comes at a time when Covid19 cases have crossed the 10,000 mark and over 200 health workers testing positive for the virus. At least 41health workers at Pumwani hospital country’s largest maternity hospital have tested positive for the coronavirus according to the Ministry of Health.
