Kuria residents turn on Governor Obado
It has not been a smooth ride for Migori Governor, Okoth Obado. During his visit of Kuria East, at Kegonga, the governor was forced to cut short his speech and run for his life.
World Bank had donated Ksh 516 million to his county for upgrading of municipalities. The governor thus picked on Migori, Rongo and Awendo towns as the only beneficiaries of the funds.
All these three towns are in the Luo region of Migori town, and those in the Kuria region were thus overlooked.
The governor therefore found himself between a rock and a hard place when he tried to explain to the residents of Kuria how comes they were ignored in this upgrading plan.
Obado thus confronted Kuria East MP Marwa Kitayama who was present at the event by stating that he is the one inciting residents against him.
“I have tried to explain to Kitayama the truth about the World Bank project but he has refused to listen. He wants to incite the Kuria people against me so that they can think Obado is such a bad person. He is here and I do not want to speak behind his back. So my brother, on a sober note, let me tell you whoever you are working for, you will not succeed,” said Obado.
Feeling fed up with Obado’s lecture, the MP sprang up to the podium to try snatch the microphone from the governor who was still addressing. It is then that the governor’s security go hold of the MP but the crowd, who were armed with stones and rungus jumped to the support of their MP.
