Kone’s family speaks on daughter alcohol addiction
Vicky Chebet Kones, daughter to Bomet East MP Beatrice Kones was on Friday laid to rest in Kuresoi, Nakuru County.
Vicky died on April 17 at a Nakuru hospital barely two months after the death of his brother who committed suicide.
During the burial family members didn’t shy away from telling the public the cause of death of their daughter. They also used the chance to urge youths to shun away from alcohol and drugs.
“It is in the public domain that Chebet bravely battled alcoholism, drug and substance abuse. Perhaps this should serve as a wake-up call to the many, especially the youth, who are currently under the influence,” read part of her eulogy.
Vicky’s mother Beatrice Kones, speaking at the event, revealed Vicky had undergone a long rehabilitation process at Haven Recovery Centre in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.
Political leaders present lauded the family for their openess something that will help to change the community.
Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika challenged parents to open up on matters affecting youths like alcoholism.
“This is a good example to families that hide the truth even when their children are dying because of alcoholism, which is tormenting our young people,” she said.
