Kenyan chef Maliha Mohammed breaks Guiness World Record

Kenyan chef Maliha Mohammed has broken the Guiness Word Record of cooking for the longest time.

The record previously stood at 68hours 30minutes as set by Lumpkin from California in USA. However, chef Maliha Mohammed smashed it with a huge gap setting a new record of 75hours.

Chef Maliha Mohammed broke the record today, Sunday 18th August at Kenya Bay Beach Resort in Mombasa.

Maliha Mohammed first applied for the competition in April 2018 and was nominated although she did not participate due to financial strains.

She then reapplied in December 2018 and in February 2019 she was given confirmation of enrollment in the competition.


It is a costly event and that is why last year (2018) I failed to participate due to financial challenges, I could not meet the cost. I am calling on well wishers to support me this year so that I bring the award home,” she said then.

Despite winning the competition and placing Kenya on the map, the cost involved amount to Shs. 500,000

At the end of every hour of cooking, she had 5 minutes to freshen up with an option to accumulate the time so as to have much more break later.
