Kenya fishermen arrested in Tanzania

Kenyan fishermen who were fishing on Lake Victoria have been arrested by the Tanzania police.

According to Tuko News the fishermen were arrested on Thursday night and are being held at Sota police station in Tanzania.

“Local fishermen were nabbed on Thursday and are being held at Sota Police Station in Tanzania where they have been for days.” Posted Tuko.

According to Homa Bay county Beach Management Units chairperson, Edward Oremo, the Tanzanian officers also seized five boats and fishing gears.

The Kenyan fishermen are accused of trespassing. They crossed the borders and fished on foreign waters.

In November last year Kenyan authorities arrested 16 fishermen from Tanzania for allegedly trespassing into the country and using outlawed fishing equipment.

Last year Tanzania police men had made arresting Kenyans fishermen a habit. which was later stopped after the two authorities had mediation talks.
