How CS Fred Matiang’i has fixed each of his dockets
Fred Matiang’i is the name that needs no introduction to any Kenyan. He is the bold and unmoved Cabinet Secretary who lives by his words. Many have perceived him as President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Mr. Fix It in many tough situations.
It is in this line that the President must have thought that to achieve the Big Four Agenda in the manner he wants it, the CS Matiang’i has to lead all other Cabinet Secretaries from the front line, thus appointing him the Chairman of the all powerful cabinet committee on National Development and Implementation.
But what really has this man, Dr. Fred Matiang’i, done to attract such rise? Below are some of the impacts he has brought in the dockets he was tasked to oversee.
1. Analogue to Digital TV Migration
On his appointment as the ICT Minister in 2013, Dr. Fred Matiang’i gave Kenyans a fresh breath on interaction with technology. He presided over the launch of the digital TV transmissions.
This move had previously been postponed severally and during his tenure, the stakeholders had heavily objected it but he didn’t succumb to their pressure. Today, the entire nation fully transformed to the digital signal.
2. Education System Management
In 2015 after the cabinet reshuffle, Dr. Fred Matiang’i was moved to education ministry. Immediately he enforced the decolonization of teachers which had heavily been objected.
He enforced the transfer of heads of schools and reshuffled teachers to ensure a mix of teachers across the country.
Dr. Fred Matiang’i then ran sanity in the KCPE and KCSE exams to cut off on the cheating and was then the initiators of 100% transition from Primary to Secondary schools.
3. Painting of school buses yellow
After so many road carnage involving school buses, Dr. Fred Matiang’i order the painting of all primary and secondary school buses yellow. This was to bring about their ease of identification and cut off the monkey business that they were engaging in.

4. Tougher immigration rules
Dr. Fred Matiang’i has been in the forefront in safeguarding the country for illegal immigrants.
Recently, he barred all foreigners looking forward to working or investing in Kenya from processing their visas in Nairobi. They were asked to process the same while in their country and only make their way to Kenya once the visa has been granted.
5. Return of Michuki Rule
In November 2018, Dr. Fred Matiang’i declared war against the rogue PSV. Many stated that it would be a short lived task as the industry is full of cartels. However, the CS has lived to disapprove that as the players in the industry had to abide by the rule so as to continue doing business.
