Gun holders given seven days to surrender their guns

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has issued a 7 day ultimatum to all licenced gun holders to surrender their guns.

Speaking on Friday Matiang’i said those who will fail to surrender will be treated as armed and dangerous.

According to Matiang’i, there are 13,805 registered gun holders in the country and among them, only 9,398 were vetted.

This a move by the government to set things straight at Firearms Licensing Bureau that has for a long time allowed criminal syndicates to assist applicants to get licences by manipulating the systems and bypassing existing stringent rules.

There has been an outcry on social media by netizens complaining of irresponsible use and harassment by gun holders in night clubs
