Governor forced to explain absence of his deputy
West Pokot Governor Prof John Lonyangapuo was put to task to explain the absence of his deputy, Dr Nicholas Atudonyang from the country.
Appearing before the Senate Devolution Committee on Tuesday, Prof Lonyangapuo was piled pressure to explain the whereabouts of his deputy who is alleged to have jetted out of the country immediately after the general election.
The mathematician told the committee that Mr. Atudonyang is receiving treatment in the USA affecting his early plans to return in the country by April this year.
“My deputy governor comes on and off… he left Kenya for the USA on December 2018 and was to return to the country in April 2019. That did not happen because he fell ill,” Prof Lonyangapuo said.
According to Prof Lonyangapuo, Dr Atudonyang does not earn a salary since he was hardly ever in the country.
“I, thereafter, told him it won’t be possible for him to continue earning a salary as the deputy governor, yet he is hardly in the county,”
“He agreed to forego his salary, beginning in September 2018. Even when he travels, he is not facilitated by the county government,” he continued.
