Governor Cyprian Awiti survives petition
The highest court of the land, the Supreme Court, has this afternoon upheld the election of Homa Bay Governor, Cyprian Awiti.
Initially, the High Court and Court of Appeal had nullified the election of Governor Cyprian Awiti following an appeal by former Kasipul MP and Homa Bay gubernatorial contestant in 2017 Oyugi Magwanga.
In delivering the ruling, Justice Jackton Ojwang stated that the two courts had erred in law stating that Cyprian Awiti had not been denied fair hearing.
The Supreme Court argued that the petitioner lacked substantial evidence to nullify the victory of Governor Awiti.
