Government won’t be part of DP Ruto’s Kes 50 million pledge to Harambee Stars
Just before the Harambee Stars played Ethiopia at Kasarani stadium, DP William Ruto made a huge pledge of Kes 50 million should the national team make it to the AFCON competition.
Fast forward, and the national team made the cut to the competition scheduled to be played in Egypt and now the back lies with DP Ruto on his pledge.
Today, the government, through the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Sports, Kirimi Kaberia, while appearing before the Committee on Sports, Culture and Tourism stated that the government won’t finance the pledge made by the Deputy President.
The Chair of the Committee, Machakos Town MP, Hon Victor Munyaka stated, “The promise must be honoured because failure to do so will trigger a hue and cry in the team and puncture the morale of the boys ahead of the tournament.”
Harambee Stars need Kes 224 million to participate in the event.
