The government is thinking on how to purchase 11 second hand trains from Spain for a cost of Ksh 10 Billion. Some of the trains are as old as 25 years.

It is said that the Cabinet has already rubber-stamped the deal and the trains should be arriving from June.

The trains were manufactured by Construcciones and Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles (CAF) from Spain between 1994 and 2003, as reported by Sunday Nation.

It will also be upon the government to repair the same trains once they get here as they are not in good shape. The said trains can only pull 3 coaches with a carrying capacity of 128 seated passengers and 130 standing passengers.
