Former OCS sentenced to death

Former Ruaraka OCS, Nahashon Mutua, has been sentenced to death for murder of an inmate, Martin Koome, in 2013.

“The Prosecution has proved beyond reasonable doubt that the police caused the deceased suffering while in cells which caused his death,” Lady Justice Stella Mutuku ruled.

Mr. Mutua had denied killing Koome, and instead he stated that he had been beaten up by fellow inmates for noisemaking.

18 witnesses were lined up against the former OCS.

It is said that the former OCS asked Koome to immerse his head in a drum of water for 30 minutes. He thin hit him on his back with a rod. Koome died at Kenyatta National Hospital on 20th December 2013.

Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) recommended for Mr. Mutua to be arrested and charged with murder. In which the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) was in agreement with.
