DPP Haji demands apology from Standard Media
Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Noordin Haji has demanded an apology from Standard Media for what he alleges of publishing false information.
The DPP called for media accountability by making sure they feed their audience with correct and accurate information.
“DPP expresses concern over a false report appearing in one of the leading local dailies and calls on media to act responsibly by disseminating factual information to the public.” Said the DPP.
In press release to media houses the DPP condemned media houses for publishing news without contacting the sources. The office of the DPP also questioned the idea of journalist using anonymous sources
“It is utterly unprofessional for main stream media to propagate such narrative without seeking information from the ODPP.” He said.
Noordin Haji demanded an apology from Standard Media or move to court to sue the Mombasa Road based media house.
“I demand a public apology from the editors of the concerned media house, and the apology should be published immediately, failure to which I will be forced to go the legal way,” read part of the press release.
The Standard Newspaper had done a story in which they claimed that Officers from the ODPP were investigating a Cabinet Secretary over corruption. They alleged that the officers had moved to Italy to investigate the matter.
