Don’t allow depression to destroy you, Gospel Artiste Tim K says

Mipango ya Mungu hitmaker and the founder of Youth Againt Drug Abuse (YADA) Initiative Tim K, has come out to speak about depression that is silently killing young people in Kenya.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), depression is the most common illness worldwide. A killer that is destroying people silently.

Depression is a disorder characterized by a persistently low mood, sadness and loss of interest. It is a persistent problem, not a passing one, lasting on average six to eight months.Speaking in an interview on Saturday 30th, Tim said that past experiences have rendered most people hopeless because they think that is the end of them.

“Life is full of challenges and we need to be strong when conditions are not favorable. Many things happen.  It is good to note that the devil is working hard to destroy your future by reminding you about what you did in the past or what happened in your family” He said.

As a young artiste, Tim said he is trying as much as possible to engage youths in discussions on effects of drug and drugs abuse.

“Drug and drug abuse with depression have a connection. Certain people are more at risk for developing depression, making these individuals more susceptible to substance abuse” He added.

“I was reading an article by National Institute on Drug Abuse that contains data which indicates a connection between mood disorders like depression and substance abuse, with those diagnosed with a mood disorder being twice as likely to abuse substances than a person without a mood disorder”

Tim K has dream of changing lives by inspiring young people to stay positive and work hard no matter the situation. For him Yada Initiative has an objective of reaching to that young man in the village who is hopeless.

“God has blessed has with a lot. Giving up in life in a solution, we all go through ups and down. Even in my music, there are challenges but do we say? Let’s be strong and keep going?” He said.

Reports indicate that last year, about 450 million people were affected by depression globally while Kenya was ranked at position four in Africa with 1.9 million people who have the condition.

Tim K is an upcoming artiste from Elgeyo Marakwet County, Marakwet West Constituency. His first song Mipango ya Mungu was received positively and played in different mainstream media. Tim says his next video is coming soon.
