CS Fred Matiang’i talks tough on foreigners dealing in betting companies

Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i on Monday, ordered deportation of all foreigners doing gambling business without permit.

Speaking at the Kenya School of Government, the CS insisted that all foreigners who applied for business permit but they are engaging in diMatiang’i.usiness from they applied for they will be deported.

“My firm instructions is that anyone who applied for a different permit and ended in gambling business, I am ready to sign their deportation papers today. We have to clean up the sector… We are not using the guise of revenue to allow a broken sector… Over 90% of players in gaming are foreigners, they repatriate a huge amount of money to their countries.” Said Matiang’i.

The CS observed that they are willing and ready for dialogue with those in gambling industry but discouraged the idea of moving to court to block the implementation process.

“We are here to listen to each other but not to condemn each other, we respect your investment but understand that we have a country to protect and not when asked to pay taxes you rush to the court,” he said.

Matiang’i also noted that gambling firms owes the government Ksh 26 billion.
