Bodaboda operator killed for not observing social distancing
A bodaboda operator in Manyatta Kisumu County, was stabbed to death for allegedly carrying more than one passenger.
The deceased was among five bodabodas who were stabbed by members of Kisumu County Bodaboda Association that is based in Manyatta.
The said association claimed they were reinforcing the order by the Ministry of health that directed bodaboda operators to carry only one passenger as away of curbing the spread of Corona virus.
The five were accused of carrying more than one passenger, contravening Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe order regulating the operations of bodaboda riders.
Two of the victims were rushed to Jaramogi Oginga hospital where they are said to be in a critical condition. The secretary of Kisumu County Bodaboda Association is in police custody in connection with the attacks.
Orders on Bodaboda
The health boss on Monday added other measures to curb the spread of corona. He directed all riders with their passengers to use face masks.
“All bodabodas going forward will have to put on face masks. You can imagine how many passengers they interact with in a single day, we need to save our youth who have invested heavily in this business,” said Kagwe.
