Arsonist behind fire at Malik Heights identified

Alhusnain Motors Limited, a car bazaar, based at Malik Heights building lost sixty-nine vehicles from the fire, amounting to Sh.600 million.

Police have stated that they are looking for an arsonist who has been linked to having set up the fire.

Based on CCTV footage, the arsonist in question was captured near and within Malik Heights building. It is said that he is a former broker at the business and the footage shows him walking into the building with a jerican believed to be containing fuel.

The arsonist then went to the parking area where he sprinkled the substance and lit fire before using the staircase to get out.

It is said that detectives have visited his Nairobi homes in Eastleigh and Kileleshwa but did not find him, however, left a message behind that he should be told he is wanted since he is placed at the scene of the incidence.

Malik Heights building hosts a car bazaar, restaurant and offices. It went up in flames at 8pm and explosions could be heard from inside the building as efforts to salvage vehicles parked in the basement were underway.
