4.8 Billion scandal at Kenya Prisons
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is investigating Ksh4.8 billion scandal at Kenya Prisons.
Speaking to journalists, EACC Chief Executive Officer Twalib Mubarak, said that the Commission is investigating 9 individuals for unprocedural signing of contracts.
“Money did not leave but the contract had been signed. So it was by sheer luck that the money had not been released because the contract says upon signing payment should be done within 30 days,” said Mbarak.
The EACC boss further revealed that the mega prison scandal involved former and current principal Secretary, a nominated senator and state officers.
He noted that they are investigating the individuals and once they are done, his office will forward the file to the ODPP for consideration.
The contractor was to supply the prison department with fire arms, bulletproof vests, target rifles, G3 rifles, rifle slings and other assorted weapons.
Mbarak said that Kenyans were lucky for not losing the money as the contractor was to be paid the amount within 30 days.
Kenyans continue to face graft challenges as more corruption cases are being reported on government projects everyday.
